Respiratory Diseases

Good afternoon,
Today I presented another educational session to the foster grandparents at Central Wisconsin Center. I have routinely attended their monthly meetings and incorporated an educational presentation on a topic of interest. Today I talked about respiratory diseases. The individuals that live at Central Wisconsin Center have many underlying respiratory conditions that require  portable oxygen, nebulizers position changes and continuous monitoring. The foster grandparents accompany these individuals to activities and provide companionship throughout the day. It is very important that them foster grandparents posses a basic understanding of respiratory conditions and the impact it has on the residents.

I started out by talking about respiratory conditions that are commonly seen in the public. the average age of these volunteers is 75 so many of the audience could contribute personally to this  topic. I used a PowerPoint presentation that I authored to help give an overview of some common respiratory conditions. I focused on COPD  and reinforced the topic with a youtube video.

The foster grandparents were very receptive to the material presented and asked great questions. I again enjoyed the time I spent with this group of interesting vivacious sexagenarians willing to donate their free time to assist individuals with developmental disabilities.
